Church Transfers

Churches transferring/entering into the Global Methodist Church should follow these steps:

1. Congregations that are part of an existing denomination (e.g., The United Methodist Church) must withdraw from that denomination under its governing documents.
2. Simultaneously with withdrawing from an existing denomination, the congregation can complete the steps below in paragraphs 4 through 6.
3. Congregations that are not part of an existing denomination may immediately complete the steps below in paragraphs 4 through 6.
4. At a congregational meeting, the professing members of the congregation present and voting must vote in favor of the congregation becoming a member congregation of the Global Methodist Church. The recommended form of the motion is as follows:

A. “I move that __________________ Church become a member congregation of the Global Methodist Church, affirms and endorse the doctrinal standards (Part One), Social Witness (Part Two), and church governance of the Global Methodist Church as set forth in its Transitional Book of Doctrines and Discipline, and agrees to be accountable to such Transitional Book of Doctrines and Discipline.

B. The primary lay leadership body of the congregation determines the percentage of votes to be achieved to support becoming a member.

5. The person presiding over and the secretary of the meeting at which the congregational vote is taken must sign a document setting forth the motion approved and the vote by which the motion was adopted and submit the document.
6. If you have questions about the church application, please email Rev. Nako Kellum, Florida Conference Administrator, at nkellum@floridagmc.org.
